Cell-Tissue Culture and Engineering
Biochemical resources include wet bench and hood space, and conventional instrumentation (spectrophotometer, spectrofluorometry, FTIR, HPLC, capillary electrophoresis, ultracentrifugation, plate readers, microinjection). The facility is staffed by a cell biologist/biochemist for assistance in maintaining cell lines, and to provide tissue culture training, expertise, supplies, and facilities. Tissue models currently available include engineered 3D collagen-based tissues, vascularised networks, and tumor spheroids. The facility director, Dr. Chung-Ho Sun, has extensive expertise in establishing primary human and animal cell lines from various normal and tumor tissues, assay development, development of tissue immunofluorescence staining procedures, and project-specific 3-dimensional tissue reconstruction. Two new instruments, RT-PCR and a Shimadzu spectrophotometer with integrating sphere capabilities, have been added in the past 5 years.
