Progress and Challengers Towards Monolithically Integrated Terahertz Transceiver

The continuous increase of the interests to the continuous-wave (CW) terahertz (THz) technologies in recent years is based on their potential to the wide range of applications such as wireless communications, spectroscopy, sensing, and imaging. To the wide spread of THz application in the industry, a highly-efficient and compact THz module with a reasonable cost has become more important. Since the optimized performance depends not only on the characteristics of functional devices but also module configurations, various approaches have been investigated to implement high-performance THz platforms as the main building blocks of a THz system. Compact and cost-effective photonics technologies envisage the bright future of THz systems.
